Angelina Jolie has written and will direct the Bosnian war drama she announced this week. The Oscar-winning actress will make her directorial debut with the project, which tells the tale of a couple who meet each other just as the Bosnian war begins in 1992. The project will be produced alongside Graham King and Tim Headington in association with GK Films. It will be the second time Angelina works with the company following The Tourist, which she shot with Johnny Depp in Italy earlier this year ahead of a December release. Discussing the movie while on a trip to Sarajevo earlier this week, Angelina said: “The film is a love story, not a political statement. I would like to involve as many people as possible and learn as much as I can.”

Unforgiven Angelina Jolie?

Posted August 23rd, 2010. Filed under Movie News

Angelina Jolie is being lined up for a role in Unforgiven. A movie adaptation of the British miniseries is currently being scripted by Christopher McQuarrie with Angelina Jolie in mind for the leading role, Deadline.com reports. The series told the story of a woman – originally played by Suranne Jones – who leaves jail after a 15 year stretch for killing two police officers who were trying to evict her from her farmhouse. Upon rejoining society she finds herself on the end of a revenge campaign by the son of one of her victims. Although Jolie does not join projects until a script is complete, the project is being fast-tracked by GK Films, with whom she has worked with on The Tourist and her new Bosnian war love story. If she were to sign up, it would lead to a busy 2011 for Angelina, who has the as-yet-untitled Bosnian story to work on and a rumoured role as Cleopatra lined up, as well as a possible sequel to Salt.

Angelina Jolie is unsure if she is the right person to play Marilyn Monroe on the big screen. The stunning actress – who is reported to be portraying the curvy blonde bombshell in an upcoming epic based on a book by Andrew O’Hagan- admits she knows nothing about the film, and is unsure whether she would even be suitable for the part. She told BANG Showbiz: “This is a new rumour. I haven’t heard a thing about it. I don’t think. I don’t know if I’d be the best person to play her.” Author Andrew, who wrote the book The Life and Opinions of Maf The Dog, and Of His Friend Marilyn Monroe, confirmed the 35-year-old actress would be starring alongside Hollywood legend George Clooney in the film, where he is set to portray Frank Sinatra. However, Angelina claims she needs to have a chat with George – who is close pals with her long-term lover Brad Pitt – first. She laughed: “I don’t know though, I haven’t talked to George about it yet!”

Jolie enjoyed Salt fight scenes

Posted August 8th, 2010. Filed under Movie News News & Gossip

Angelina Jolie has said she was in her element filming action scenes in new thriller Salt. “I’d done a lot of action movies but they were all based in fantasy in some way. This was the first time I got to do something based in reality and I think that makes all the action harder and softer and just a lot more fun,” she explained. “In most action films you have that one gun but in this one it’s everybody taking everyone else’s. I think I got to play with just about everything including a fire extinguisher in a way I had never used it,” the actress laughed. In the film the actress plays Salt, a CIA agent who’s on the run after being labelled a Russian sleeper spy, and she revealed she’s been left with a permanent scar from filming. “Oddly I got injured in one of the most ridiculously easy scenes in the movie, I had to just jump into a door and shoot sideways while I roll on the ground. “I rolled in to a desk and cracked my skull, it was bleeding and I have a little scar now on my head,” she revealed. At first Angelina even thought she’d lost her hearing in the accident. “I actually thought that I had some problems because I couldn’t hear anybody very well and I thought ‘oh my god’ but I’d forgotten I had my ear plugs in, I was fine!” she laughed.

Jolie Glad She Snubbed Bond

Posted July 9th, 2010. Filed under Movie News News & Gossip

Angelina Jolie is glad she turned down the chance to star opposite Daniel Craig in Casino Royale – because she would never have felt comfortable playing a supporting role to a male action hero. The Oscar-winner was approached by 007 movie bosses to take a turn as a Bond girl in the 2006 film, but she refused. And Jolie has no regrets about the decision because she was able to fulfil her action ambitions with her own superspy role in new movie Salt. She tells Britain’s Mail, “They wanted me to play a Bond girl in Casino Royale. I said, “Actually, I’d prefer to play him; I’d rather be Bond.’ It was a joke – kind of. It was an interesting conversation. “Salt is nothing like Bond. In so many spy films women are femme fatales and we wanted to avoid that. My character doesn’t use her sexuality to get anything. It’s the roughest I’ve looked. When we fight, it gets ugly. Somebody breaks my nose in the film. It’s not pretty. “I think when people write things for women – at least with the films I’ve done in the past, such as Tomb Raider – they’re not serious. They’re not raw. They’re not hard. So when we wanted a real female action hero, we looked towards something that wasn’t written for a woman.”

Jolie: ‘Wanted character must die’

Posted April 30th, 2010. Filed under Movie News News & Gossip

Angelina Jolie reportedly insisted that her Wanted character must die at the film’s climax. According to MTV, the actress purposely changed the ending of the movie from the comic book on which it was based. “In the original, she doesn’t kill herself,” said Jolie. “I actually changed the ending. I said, ‘If she was to find out she had killed people unjustly and was a part of something that wasn’t fair, then she should take her own life’.” It is speculated that the star set the plot up that way so that she wouldn’t have to come on board for a sequel.
